How to Repair Cheap Kitchen Doors
At one point or another, making a repair to your kitchen doors is bound to make an appearance on your to-do list. Perhaps one of the doors is starting to produce an irritating squeak while opening and closing or maybe the paint is starting to chip or fade on multiple doors. Whatever the case, it is almost always easier, not to mention cheaper, to make repairs to your existing kitchen unit doors than it is to purchase and install new ones. Even if you had cheap kitchen doors installed instead of good quality ones, you can still repair them easily yourself without spending a fortune.
The types of repairs you will have to make to your kitchen doors will depend largely on what kind of doors you have and what
problems you are experiencing with them. If you have a squeaky door that makes noise each time you open and shut it, a few drops of oil dripped onto the noisy hinge will most likely solve the problem. In the off chance that this method doesn’t work, you can always choose to replace the hinge, which in most instances is fairly simple and inexpensive. Keep in mind that cheap kitchen cabinet doors usually come with low quality hinges and knobs, which means that they will most likely need some maintenance or replacing every so often.
If the paint on your cheap kitchen cupboard doors is starting to chip or fade, repairs can be quite costly depending on the type of wood your doors are made out of and the type of paint used. If the paint on your doors is custom made, you may end up having to repaint all of your doors if the color cannot be readily duplicated. If your color is available, you may be able to get away with only repainting one cabinet door. Repainting itself can also be a complicated task. Depending on the type of wood your cheap kitchen door is made of, you may have to sand down the entire door before applying a fresh coat of paint. One thing to remember is that the new paint will look brighter and cleaner than the old ones. It might look a little funny to have one shiny new cabinet and the rest looking old and worn. For this reason, people usually opt for painting all of their kitchen doors at once to avoid this problem.
At one time or another you may need to repair kitchen unit doors that have been scratched or damaged. In most cases scratches and other damage can be fixed by following the same steps for requiring repainting but glass doors are once major exception to the rule. In addition to not looking as good, repairing scratched, chipped, or broken glass doors can be more time consuming and expensive than just replacing the damaged door with a new one. Keep in mind that depending on how long ago the cabinets were installed, you might have a difficult, if not impossible time finding cheap kitchen replacement doors. In this case, you will probably be left with few options other than having them repaired or replacing them with another similar type.
