Outdoor Kitchen Plans: Coming up with your Design
When in the process of designing an outdoor kitchen, the most important step is to plan the style and layout. By doing a good job in this part, you will ensure that the components that you buy to complete your kitchen will fit right. There are two main parts of the outdoor kitchen planning process: Style and Functionality. By thinking about these two parts before you begin, you can be sure that your kitchen will turn out great. Let’s take a look at these two steps in more detail.
Outdoor Kitchen Styles
There are a lot of different styles that you can choose from when planning out your outdoor kitchen, but many of them are very similar. Although the final look may differ, nearly all outdoor kitchens are made out one of the following
materials: Stone, Concrete, or Wood. When choosing a style, you will need to take a good look at the outdoor area that will surround your location. What is around it? Are there trees, grass, and other natural things? Is there a swimming pool or hot tub? Will the kitchen be on a wooden deck? The surrounding area will play a big part in your outdoor kitchen plan. In general, wood is usually the best choice for a kitchen on a deck. Likewise, concrete is a good choice by a pool and natural stone usually turns out beautiful in more natural settings.
Having said that, you can alter the final look of your kitchen to however you want it. Just because the basic shape is made out of concrete doesn’t mean that you have to settle for an ugly gray finish. You can top it with a beautiful countertop, tile the cement with stone-like tiles, or use a faux-finish that resembles something different entirely. With well thought through outdoor kitchen plans, your final outcome should be very similar to how you imagined it. The way some homeowners run into trouble is by not having a good plan to begin with, which can result in a final design that they don’t like very much.
Outdoor Kitchen Functionality
The second step in outdoor kitchen design plans is to choose the components that you want to have. Although there are many options, some components are pretty much a necessity for any kitchen outside. These are the things that you are definitely going to need:
- Barbecue Grill
- Refrigerator
- Sink
- Countertop
- Cabinets
The most important piece of equipment is going to be the outdoor kitchen grill. If you really want to incorporate the grill into your design as seamless as possible, you should choose what is called a “drop in” grill. This refers to the type of grill that doesn’t have a bottom to it, and instead just gets put into place in the location that is built to hold it. The rest of the components are necessary to prepare and clean up, keep food and drinks cold in the bar fridge, and store dishes and glasses so that you can have them conveniently at hand.
In addition to the above mentioned necessities of any good outdoor kitchen plans, having an extra burner or two is very convenient for preparing food that doesn’t need to be grilled.
